Virginia’s Best Angel Food Cake Recipe Baking Contest Wednesday, July 29, 2009 6pm Entries for the cake contest will be accepted from 5:00-5:45pm. Please bring all entries to the Home Arts Tent. Winners compete at State Fair Level. Rules: • Open to any individual who is a Virginia resident; one entry per person. Participant does not have to reside in county where fair is held. Local fairs are asked to waive any residency requirements. Participants are eligible to participate in ONE contest one time. • Entrant must begin the dessert with a baked angel food cake, made from ‘scratch’ – no mixes used. It can be the base of any type of dessert (Ex: Trifle, pudding, molded dessert, rolled cake, torte, cupcakes, etc.). Any type of cake pan used is acceptable. • A minimum of 10 large eggs must be cracked (A.F. cakes use egg whites). • Frosting or icing is optional. If the dessert is submitted frosted or glazed, the recipe for frosting, icing or glaze must be included on the same sheet. Include garnish in recipe. • Entire dessert must be submitted on cardboard or a disposable container for judging. • Recipe must list ingredients in order of use. Preparation instructions, pan size (and type) and cooking time and temperatures, must be included. Written recipe must be printed on one side of page and must be submitted with the baked entry. Reverse side of page must include recipe contestant’s name, address, phone and email address. • This is an adult competition. Contestants under 18 will be judged as an adult. Recipe Requirements: • The dessert must have a ‘from scratch’ angel food cake as its base, cracking a minimum of 10 large eggs (egg whites only are used in A.F. cake). • Ingredients must be listed in the order of use. • Directions, cooking time, temperature and pan type and size must be included. • Icing, topping and frosting recipes should be listed separately, but on the same sheet. • Recipes will become the property of the Virginia Egg Council. • Desserts will be prepared and presented for judging at local county fairs. |
